Word imageability and orthographic neighbourhood effects on memory: a study in free recall and recognition
نویسندگان
چکیده
This study investigated the effects of word imageability and orthographic neighbourhood size, as well their combined effects, in free recall recognition memory. A total 45 young adults performed tasks on same materials. Word size were orthogonally manipulated across four conditions: low-imageability words – high N, saveur [flavor], low [total], high-imageability carré [square] nuage [cloud]. The results show that facilitates memory performance both tasks, while effect was exhibited only task. Finally, found to depend imageability. implications are discussed according semantic characteristics with regard processes involved tasks.

The influence of emotional orthographic neighbourhood in visual word recognition
The aim was to investigate the activation spread between the orthographic lexicon and theaffective system by means of emotional orthographic neighbourhood. Target words with aneutral emotional valence (e.g., tenace, fuseau) were selected so that they had only one higher-frequency orthographic neighbour with either a negative valence (e.g., menace) or a neutralvalence (e.g., fuse...
متن کاملWord imageability affects the hippocampus in recognition memory.
Concrete words, whose meanings are readily imagined, are better remembered than abstract words. However, the neural correlates of this effect are poorly understood. Here, we investigated the effect of imageability on brain activity in the medial temporal lobe (MTL) processes underlying recognition memory. We recorded event-related potentials (ERPs) via depth electrodes from within the MTL in 14...
متن کاملOrthographic Neighborhood Effects in Bilingual Word Recognition
A series of progressive demasking and lexical decision experiments investigated how the recognition of target words exclusively belonging to one language is affected by the existence of orthographic neighbors from the same or the other language of bilingual participants. Increasing the number of orthographic neighbors in Dutch systematically slowed response times to English target words in Dutc...
